Quit trying to increase the stride length is where I would start.
The distance of your stride has nothing to do with your velocity. A ‘natural’ stride length takes the credit for the work another part of your body is doing and it has nothing to do with your legs.
In fact, this ‘other-half’ of your body is also the Dude that’s responsible for your arm speed, and arm health.

Of course you do, it’s the hips, the center part of your body. Think of it as the bridge between the upper and lower body. If your bridge isn’t stable and able to sway with the wind, you better believe there’s going to be a traffic jam.

The more efficient you can use your legs to drive downhill the better your chances are for a longer stride, and increased velocity… Only if – you’re able to efficiently use your hips to transfer the energy up to the upper body.
If you can’t transfer the energy to the arm, it doesn’t really matter how well you’re able to use your legs. The arm will end up killing itself by trying to muscle up and create all the energy by itself.
In other words, it all comes down the hips being able to do its job.
If you learn how to use your hips to create more momentum, not only will stride length come ‘natural’ (without you ever thinking about it)… But – The arm will be forced to move faster, I call it ‘on the spot’ arm speed.
