I’m a recovering pitching mech-addict.
Yep, it’s true.
I used to believe:
But then I sobered up and I got to drinking, I mean thinking.
If arm strength was the real reason pitchers can or can’t throw 90 mph… Then why do you see outfielders throwing 95 mph from a crow-hop on flat ground but suddenly lose 10 mph when you give them an opportunity to throw downhill?
If you’re thinking the reason you can’t throw strikes is because of your pitching mechanics… Then you’re right because you can’t throw strikes when you’re thinking about mechanics.
And finally, it wasn’t until after discovering what Vandy’s pitching coach Scott Brown calls “The Official Velocity Tool” of choice for his pitchers, that I finally figured out what the legs really do.
Wanna know what the legs really do?
They do what the hips tell them to do. It’s your center mass region that drives your direction, acceleration and rotation. Every single move you make derives from what you’re hips are doing.
As the Godfather of Pitching Mechanics once told me . (Paul Nyman):
“The body craves balance, the body craves equal and opposite” . And he’s right.
That’s why so much of what you read about pitching mechanics, and see is quite frankly… bad information. In fact, most of the pitching instruction I see goes against everything I believe in.
That’s why I teach movements, you can FEEL and not mechanics you can’t.
By the way. Do we have any body in the crowd today that can FEEL a 37 degree angle and repeat it consistently? Cause the last time I checked you can’t bring a video camera with you when you’re standing in the spotlight at crunch time.
So, I prepare my pitchers to become their own coach by using simple training methods like the one I’m about to share with you and here’s why.
In other words…
Your velocity is dependent upon everything you can’t see!
Because what you’re seeing on the outside is just a mere shadow of what’s really going on inside. That includes your mechanics fellas, and that’s why I urge you to stop coaching the shadow.
Duh… Enough talking, cause the show’s about to start. And I bet you’re curious wondering about this “Breathing Stick” is all about, aren’t you? I figured.
Alright, here’s what you need to know:
Not only that…
And of course, good Ole Music City TN – Click here for all the dates.
But do know if you plan on attending…
Just know – I do not allow video recording devices of any sort due to the sensitive materials I can’t risk getting out. And one more thing, you never know who might be stopping by to work hands-on. I always get at least one of my good friends to help out and the list’s included Butch Thompson, Auburn, Scott Brown-Vandy, Derek Johnson – Milwaukee Brewers… and more.
So, go ahead and get your seat before somebody takes it from you and you end up having to wait another entire year to get on the list.
That’s all folks. Enjoy!
