We live in an A-frame house and there’s a small hallway that overlooks our living room, between our bedroom and the bathroom. As I’m coming out of the shower and walking to our room, my wife is cracking up laughing and asks… “Did you see your son’s black hair?” “Huh?” It threw me off because our 4 year old boy has orange hair, nothing close to Burt Reynolds black.
Earlier tonight I passed down an aisle I encountered my nemesis, Moby Dick. The book was the summer reading assignment my sophomore year of high school. But, I had more important things to do and I had a trick up my sleeve. I’d planned it out and was ready to enjoy the summer, who cares about Moby Dick. Well the summer passed and before I knew it, school had started. The week before school started I’d bought the Cliff Notes for Moby Dick and was prepared the test. As soon as the teacher handed me the paper, I knew I was in trouble. My temperature raised and the sweat dripping down my face was freezing cold. I tried to BS my way through the one-question essay test, dropping buzz-words and key elements of the story, but it didn’t work. At that moment, I learned the difference between knowing and understanding.

As I walked out of the house yesterday, there goes Jim, attempting to mount his Peugot bicycle in full cycling gear. I don’t think cycling gear was designed for my guy Jim. Each morning he leaves the house in a canary yellow colored spandex one-piece suit, half-zipped and chest hair blowing in the wind. I often wonder if he’s deliberately unzipping the yellow “cover your kids eyes, one-piece” unit, or maybe the zipper got stuck and he has to wrestle it on and peel it off?
